Welcome to GARPENHOLM - Your Trusted VF-50 Disk Conversion Service
Do you have old Video Floppy Disks (VF disks) from the 1980, 90s and early 00's and want to preserve those precious memories?
You've come to the right place!
What is a Video Floppy Disk?
A Video Floppy Disk is a vintage storage medium, a 2" magnetic floppy disk that stored still frames of analog composite video. These disks could hold up to 50 field images or 25 full frames in either NTSC or PAL video standards. Some even included a short audio track with each video image.
Why Choose Us?
We've been in the business since the early 1990s, boasting over three decades of digitizing experience. We handle all known Video Floppy disk formats; PAL b/g, NTSC, and SECAM. Our process ensures the best video quality with minimal interference and no color-bleeding.
Our Conversion Process:
Playback: We start by playing each video frame/field on our professional players.
Stabilization: We use a Genlock signal and Time Base Correction (TBC) to stabilize the video signal.
Cleanup: We clean up noise and other disorders before sending the signal to the next step.
Scaling: We enlarge the video frame into a progressive Full-HD 1080P signal using a state-of-the-art video scaler.
Digitization: We feed the Full-HD signal into a professional video grabber and transfer it to a file server for on-line distribution or local USB transfer.
You can continue the post-processing with AI up-scaling using one of the many on-line services available.
Bulk Pricing:
Have more than 50 disks? We offer special bulk pricing for customers with large volumes of disks or retailers who frequently send disks to us. Contact us for more information.
Old-Tech vs Hi-Tech:
Back in the day, the resolution of image sensors (CCDs) was around 400 kPixels at best. Most common consumer cameras had just a 200 kPixels sensor, giving approximately 320x240 resolution.
Today, our equipment scans each analog video frame in full Hi-band PAL, NTSC, or SECAM resolution with 4:2:2 10-bit video sampling and color precision. We use professional digital scalers to de-interlace, reduce noise, and enlarge the image. We always save the result in a non-destructive (RAW) format, but you'll also get them in standard .jpg and .png formats as well.
